“Ruby At Heart”, a divergent log cabin lap quilt, 50x52in; off to the quilter soon. Divergent because traditional quilting can often be all about “coloring in the lines”: matching those points and lines with precision. A great day for a quilter? When the local, (“local” meaning a 75 minute drive) brick and mortar fabric store has a sale on their 108inch fabric for quilt backings. Can you tell I like neutrals?🤣

An unavoidable bane of working with different dye lots and textile companies is matching colors for a project. The last I heard @KonaSolids has 300 colors. The subtleties of shades/values is tremendous. Can you imagine fifty shades of grey? Sometimes you just have to do the best you can and move forward….

All day I’ve been down this rabbit hole: sure of my pattern idea strong enough to cut my fabric…..until I wasn’t sure! Fits and starts, that’s the creative process for me. How about you?

I found this linen, Aboriginal art cloth at a Thrift store….soon to be a pillow. Isn’t it fabulous?

I’m always looking for color combining inspiration. Here is a hot pad I’ve had for years and recently noticed how pleasing the colors are together. “Something wicked this way cometh” but, apologies to Ray Bradbury, “wicked” here means wicked good. Stay tuned….

Next up for PillowsTalkShop are pillows coming from fabric chosen at a fabric store in Alexandria, Virginia. A shop with only two locations: Massachusetts and Virginia, family owned with a wonderful selection of fabrics. “YES !” to Ikat, crushed velvet, mud cloth, linen, taffeta, and African fabric! I can’t wait to make these into pillows!

A costumer at the Art Tour last month purchased a queen quilt and two matching pillows. They then said, “I like multiple pillows together, at least three. The Olive Branch Trio. Someone whom I’ve not spoken with in a long time has extended an olive branch. Art mirrors life; life is art. Pillows talk. The smallest pillows in the shop: eye pillows. They reduce eye strain and tension in the eye muscles and, during meditation, help to create a deeper level of relaxation. Fun facts about Kantha cloth: it is from India and is traditionally made from saris. It is often large size pieced cloth and often has geometric patterns on one side. Generally, it is bold, bright colors. Most often, the quilting is with white thread regardless of fabric color. It is super soft. I love repurposed cloth! I love bold colors! I love kantha! Win/win.
